It's Time for Colorado to Lead on Health Care...

CAPE members are calling on Colorado elected officials, community groups
and businesses to join us and start showing the leadership needed to improve
health care – for state employees and all Colorado residents.

The CAPE Approach to Improving Health Care:

Leading by Example to
Improve State Employee Health Care

As the largest employer in Colorado, the State has a special responsibility to lead when it comes to providing access to quality, affordable health care.

Unfortunately, the State of Colorado is failing to meet that standard, despite the fact that CAPE members helped secure $15.7 million more for health care in 2007.

That’s why CAPE-SEIU members will continue to leading the way to reduce employee health care costs by:

*Lobbying at the Capitol. Learn how more than 150 CAPE members visited with lawmakers during the 2007 legislative session and how thousands of state employees signed the CAPE petition for better health care.

*Giving legislative testimony. See CAPE member Patty Herrera testify before a House legislative committee.

*Reaching out to the media. Read a news story from the Denver Post on CAPE’s efforts to improve state employee health care.

*Gaining the strength in numbers to win big. While CAPE members are working hard to improve state employee health care every day, we know that big improvements will only happen when state employees are able to speak up with a strong, unified voice.

With majority support, we’ll be able to form a partnership with the state to negotiate improvements directly to improve our jobs, our health care and the services we provide.

Join CAPE today and get involved in our campaign for better health care.

Leading by Example to
Improve Health Care for All

To make meaningful, long-term health care improvements for state employees, CAPE-SEIU understands that we need a solution that works for everyone. More than 770,000 Coloradans have no health insurance at all, and insurance costs keep going up – facts that affect state employees and all Colorado residents.

That’s why CAPE-SEIU is leading the way for larger health care reform by:

*Proposing a statewide health care solution. CAPE-SEIU is proposing a health care solution that would create a path to universal health care coverage, reduce costs for working families, ensure quality care, enable Colorado businesses to remain competitive and avoid the looming long term care crisis that threatens senior citizen health care.

*Participating in the Health Care Reform Commission. One of CAPE-SEIU’s health care experts sits on the commission that will recommend a health care solution to the legislature in 2008. Visit the 208 Commission website.

*Building grassroots and political support for comprehensive health care reform. CAPE is reaching out to politicians, business leaders, community groups and Colorado residents to build support for health care reform both in Colorado and throughout the country. Click on the links below to learn more:

*Better Health Care Together is the coalition that CAPE-SEIU has formed with Wal-Mart, AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies in support of health care reform.

*Divided We Fail is the coalition that CAPE-SEIU has formed with AARP and Business Roundtable in support of health care reform.

*Colorado for Health Care is an SEIU community-based organization with more than 15,000 members working in our communities to stand up for affordable, quality health care for Colorado residents.
